Ring in the new!

I am so ready for a new year.  2010 has a promising beginning starting out with a trip to Red River, NM!  And, 2009 has been good, but as of late has been asking for a good boot out the door.
It is hard to believe that Y2K was a decade ago today.  I will be forever a 90's kid at heart, so it is kind of sad to have such a definitive gap between me and it. I suppose my love for that time is reflected in this outfit, so here is my ode to days gone by.

My husband and I made this Zelda shirt design.  It is really easy to do, so if you are a DIYer then here are some T-shirt fun tips...
Materials:
 clean tee
 fabric paint
 paint brush
 freezer paper (w/ plastic backing)
 exacto knife
 iron
 piece of cardboard
 and maybe ruler and chalk

Okay
Draw or print your design onto the freezer paper.
It is good to have a design that is fairly simple.
Cut the negative space from the paper (don't forget, only
cut out the spots you are wanting to paint) and save any
  applicable interior pieces.
Put some cardboard into your shirt  to protect the back layer
then measure and mark out w/ chalk where you want to put your design.
Place the main piece of paper on your shirt and press w/ iron
repeat with any additional pieces.  Be careful not to stretch or pull the
  shirt while ironing.
Paint on 2 even layers then let dry.  I usually take the blow-dryer to
it at this point until it is dry to the touch.
Carefully pull off the freezer paper and check for any
  needed touchups.
And finally, when it is totally dry cover with a clean piece of
fabric and iron it for several minutes to set it.  Let it dry for
a couple of days before washing.

Yay!!  now you have a new shirt to rock!
Next time I do this project I will take pics to post a good step by step.
Until then, here is a link that I found that is basically the same.

Olive Juice and Ice Sickles

Aww yes, the first snow this winter, and isn't it so lovely!  And, yes I am such a kid at heart when it comes to playing in the snow.
After a treacherous, drive home from my inlaws Christmas Eve night, Mike and I decided to take advantage of this rare opportunity to get dressed up and take some pretty pics!  We were being very silly, but we had fun and got some great shots in the winter wonderland..

Ooohh Christmas Tree...

Ooohh Christmas Tree, how greeen are your branches!

Actually I didn't even put one up this year, but this is my Granny's, and it has been decorated the same as long as I can remember, it is so classic.  I love it.

A Market of Many Delights

One of my favorite places to shop for groceries and to dine in is Truong Son, a locally owned asian market on North O in Fort Smith.  My husband and I are addicted to the Won Ton w/ Noodles Soup, mmmmm, and Tom Yum Goong has become a staple at our house which requires parts that are found no where else.  This trip it was Mike's birthday and they treated us to free appetizers! Then we did a little Christmas shopping..

Items of note:
This dress is from Forever 21
Shoes from Target
Merry Christmas!!!

And in the future, black will be white....

...and yep I will be covered either way.
I raided my Granny's time traveling wardrobe yesterday!  I have done so periodically through the years, and I always find something I love.  It is full of stuff that was supposed to be sold at a yard sale sometime in the past, so there are still tiny pieces of crunchy masking tape on items, most of which are from the late '60s and '70s.  I brought home, washed, and tried on almost 20 items.  I will probably have to repair or reinforce seams and buttons on a few, no biggie.
Also, I have decided to wait until after the new year when we get back from our vacation to start listing on etsy.  I am a habitual procrastinator and am always late, but I will definitely get that going soon, it's my 2010 resolution.
I really love this shirt that used to be my Granny's.  The zip back collar is really cool.

Weekend Workday

I had to work this Saturday, blah, I am absolutely not a morning person, so when I woke up I almost traded in this cute outfit for something comfy, warm, and probably boring.  However, I did fight the urge, and was glad I did.  After work I actually went to the mall to experience some of the holiday craziness, and to try to find my hubby something for his birthday.  It is amazingly easy to navigate the crowded halls when you're my size, and I was very grateful for my foresight to wear flats.
After, the mall, I decided to hit up a local thrift store that I haven't been to in years.  I was pleasantly surprised, found some awesome things!  When I got home  I squeezed a couple of pics out of my dying battery camera, so here ya go....

And this is just me showing off my good bang day : )

Strange Fasinators Fasinating Me

This past June my husband and I went to Ohio to visit his family.  When we went to the park, the little girl in me had to pick some flowers for my hair.  I had a big green gingko leaf and a dogwood blossom tucked into my headband, so cute.  Anyway, it rekindled my love for nature inspired fasinators and headbands.  These are a few from etsy that I think are absolutely darling.

UltraViolet

I found this great violet suede skirt one day out thrifting, and I didn't buy it.  I found myself wondering if it was still there.  Even though I didn't really see myself wearing it, I knew it was a great find.  So, when payday rolled around again I made the rounds and somehow no one had picked it up.  I know that consignment shops do really well in this area.  I guess I am glad that the contemporary stuff sells more than my beloved vintage goodies.

Unfortunately for someone I have totally fallen for it, though I might eventually change my mind.

I got these vintage Grasshopper's wedges the other day also, and I really wish they were my size, I will have to sell them.  They are size 7 1/2 and are in good condition.  The suede is a little worn in spots, but otherwise fantastic and super comfy.

Finding Comfort in Cold Weather

The winters in the Ft. Smith area have been getting milder each year, which I hate to complain about being such a cold-natured person, but without the steady cold next year's garden will be overrun with bugs, and my pets will bring in the blood-sucking insects that I loathe.
I am also very happy to be able to give my ever growing scarf collection a workout.  Ever since I started knitting a few years ago I find myself looking forward to the cooler seasons.

My husband has a good eye for thrift shopping.  He found me this Old Navy black wool coat for $5 the other day!  It is a tad on the snug side, but I love the cut so much that I can deal.

I have often been told that I dress like an old lady, and I like to take that as a compliment.  I saw an elderly woman wearing a scarf over her head yesterday and I decided to take a cue from her today. I currently don't have any winter hats that I love to wear, so I drafted a shawl-scarf that I got for my birthday last year.  I can't go wrong with such a classic style, at least not in my own eyes.  Wish I had a better picture, but I will work on that in the future.

A Hepburn Affair

Earlier there was an auction that I would have loved to attend. I am envious of the tycoons who now possess the forty something items of clothing and accessories that once belonged to Audrey Hepburn, whose fashion sense and charitable nature has influenced so many of us. The auction apparently earned more than 260,000 pounds, half of which went to the Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund. I find myself wondering why only half, but I guess most of us can only bring ourselves to give so much.

Hello

I guess I'm a blogger now. My husband is my persuader....I am starting a project. I love vintage clothes, so I am starting a collection of items and will hopefully start posting them on Etsy soon.
