..snow day..

There are so few day's that I get to feel like a kid again.   Today work closed down early, Mike came a picked me up, and we took a drive in the building snow.  We got home and did some work on the kitchen then headed back out again to try and find some dinner.  We got 8 inches at the house by the time it stopped snowing! It was absolutely beautiful, I can hardly remember the last time it snowed that much here.

Woo Hoo!  I had a day off with Mike.  Somehow without him there days off just don't feel the same.  Cute and sappy, I know, but true.  We really took it easy today, too.  We drove around exploring roads that we have long wondered about, we ate BBQ sandwiches, we went to the park, and we went to the theater to see Avatar, which we both really enjoyed.  On the movie subject, I thought the new 3D was really cool.  I didn't get a headache from it, and it wasn't really overdone.  I didn't really know what to expect so it was a pleasant surprise.  I had gotten to the point of hardly going to the theater because it was too expensive and I can ususally wait for the video.  However, this 3D thing is a game changer.  Avatar will not be the same movie at home.  I am actually looking forward to having a real motivation to get back to the place I once belonged(but only for brief visits : )

I love this shirt! It came from a trip to California we took to visit family when I was 3 or 4 years old.  I used to sleep in it when I was little and it went down to my knees!

My husband Mike was bored and stumbling through science and art web pages the other night.  That was kind of fun.  I found a science project that I want to do, where you make a liquid mixture that turns to perfect spheres when you pick it up in your hand, WOW!  Yes I am easily amazed.  Anyway, he also found a really cool page for artist  

Cal Lane.

She is mega-talented.  Her medium is mostly metal, but there are some variations.  I was immediately in love with her work.  Her creations bring to mind lace and doilies but on oil drums, wheel barrels, and car parts to name a few.  I really liked her rusty metal prints, too.  Her site is definitely worth a gander.  Here are a few pictures from her site, but I will let you discover the rest for yourselves.  

..oh you lovely rainy day..

I am really hard pressed to find anything better than sleeping until I want to get up, and that's what I did today.  I got up at 10 til 11, did a bit of cleaning and morning stuff, then got ready for the day.  My Mom and Nanny came by for a visit and brought me lunch (thanks Mom), then my husband's Dad and Stepmom came by, which is an unusually large amount of visitors for one day.  I actually got a bit of laundry and housework done. And, I was able to take a handful of pictures during a lull in the rain.  All in all, it was a good day for being stuck at the house.

..there and back again..

or  ..the fruitless journey..

I am not sure what compelled me to think that ol' Wally World(walmart) would actually have something as obscure as watercolors, Bah!  I guess that's what happens when you wait till after 10 to get anything done in this town. Oh well.  I was actually needing something to dull the intensity of our new terracotta stained concrete countertop in the kitchen, but I think as it dries it is getting more bearable.  Unfortunately I am not one of those people who can paint their walls red and so forth.  I need neutrals! Which explains why I where so much black and grey.  So, we went there and came back again and were so distracted by the lack of what we needed that we forgot that there was other stuff we were going to get while we were there.

The scarf that I have on is actually one of my oldest accessories.  It came with a red coat that I had possibly in about 1st grade.  It is so cute with it's tartan terrier and songbirds!  I found it tucked away a few years back, joy.

..Luise Rainer..

I just watched this crazy movie called "Die!, Die!, My Darling" that we had recorded on our DVR for a while.  It wasn't too bad if you like thrillers and the 60's and crazy people.  It did hold my interest pretty well. Anyway, as I was fast forwarding through the promo clips for TCM at the end of the recording I caught a glimpse of a woman that caught my eye.  I stopped and went back a bit(gotta love DVR) and found a gem, named Luise Rainer!

I have never heard of Luise Rainer before now, but I am totally intrigued.  She just celebrated her 100th birthday on the 12th of this month, that alone is worthy of note. Imagine the things she has seen and lived through, amazing. She had a brief but very successful career on the silver screen, winning multiple academy awards for her acting.  Her most praised movies are "The Great Zeigfield" and "The Good Earth." I have never seen any of her films, but I have started my search. She is absolutely beautiful!

  

..the menswear fallback..

I had a really cute outfit picked out to wear with a pair of shorts that I got a while back from J. Crew, but when I was actually getting dressed I felt like being comfy and warm instead.  I do love me some menswear.  Actually, the shirt is more like boyswear.  I had to spice it up a bit, so I grabbed a clip-on bow tie that I've been threatening to wear for a while.  Works for me!

Went to the grocery store, then Mike took us out to China Jade for some spicy beancurd(yum!) Then we went to buy wood stain for our new kitchen cabinets.  Our kitchen is getting closer to being finished, and I am oh so ready.  I can't wait to get the house back in order.  Hopefully that will happen soon so I can get things organized to start selling on etsy.

 

 

 

This outfit makes me think of Mia Farrow.  I never really think about it, but my style comfort zone is very similar to hers.  I can understand why she dresses the way she does.

..there's no place like home..

 On the few days that my husband and I have off together, it is rare that the weather is so beautiful!  After the unusually cold temperatures of late, it is hard to believe how wonderful 50 degrees can feel.  

So, yes, as you can see we live on a farm.  Though it's currently not functional in the way of making money, we do still have some laying hens and usually a small garden.  This past spring we took on a hive of honey bees, which has been a really cool process.  We haven't gotten any honey yet because we need to get them well established before we disrupt their supply.  I can't wait!  

After we spent some time with the chickies and bees, we went into town for lunch and drove down to Fort Smith Park for a walkabout before the sun went down.  It is kind of sad that this park has such a bad rep because it really is quite nice.  I actually came here for some of my senior pictures way back then.  The bottom pic is actually sort of an ode to one of those senior pictures.  I was pleasantly surprised at all of the good photo opportunities there too.  I am sure that this park will be showing up in a lot more posts in the future.
